Positive coronavirus cases in Wales have risen again to record the largest increase so far this month and the largest daily change since June.
Public Health Wales (PHW) announced that 183 new laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus were reported on Monday, September 14.
The increase in confirmed cases continues after 162 new cases Sunday, 164 cases reported Saturday and 130 cases announced Friday.
The nation’s weekly rate of infections is now 23 per 100,000 people, beyond the rate at which a quarantine would be imposed in a foreign country.
Caerphilly remains the area of Wales with the most cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the past seven days at 92.2. There are high figures per 100,000 for RCT (59.7) and Newport (48.5). The rate in Merthyr is now 39.8. People living in Merthyr and RCT have been subject to additional voluntary restrictions since last week after both cases saw both cases rise to an incidence rate of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, which was the level at which a local lockdown was introduced in Caerphilly.
Attention has shifted to Newport after it reported on Sunday the fourth-highest cumulative seven-day population-adjusted total in Wales, with many cases linked to seven pubs and bars across the city.
That prompted Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething to say he was considering closing all pubs in the city in a bid to address the rise in new coronavirus cases.

Monday’s figure brings the total number of cases to 19,573 in Wales since the start of the pandemic.

Again, PHW reported no deaths from Covid-19. So far there have been no deaths in September of anyone who has been diagnosed with coronavirus in the last month. Two people died with Covid-19 on August 31.

Caerphilly had the highest number of new cases at 47 and has been on lockdown since 6 p.m. Tuesday. RCT recorded 42 new positive cases, and Newport reported 14. Cardiff saw double-digit cases with 12 as did Conwy with 11.
Swansea was next with nine, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen reported six cases, and Wrexham and Bridgend saw five each. Blaenau Gwent had four, while Anglesey, Powys and Neath Port Talbot had three each.
Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Carmarthenshire only had two.
Monmouthshire, the Vale of Glamorgan, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion had no cases.
