The owner of a home where the police broke up a party in violation of Covid-19 restrictions told officers that he “couldn’t see what the problem was.”
Surprisingly, the man told police that he “did not know there were any restrictions.”
Meanwhile, police chiefs have urged people to avoid a “holiday weekend,” as the “rule of six” restrictions take effect next week.
The Greater Manchester Police City Center Division released details and said more than 30 people were at the party held in the city center on Friday night.
It comes when Bolton police, which has the highest Covid-19 infection rate in the country, crashed into a wedding party attended by around 100 people on Friday.
Police also attended a 60th birthday in Bolton in violation of the guidelines.
On both occasions fixed penalty notices were distributed.
It is understood that a fine was imposed on the owner of the home where the wedding party was held, but no further details have been released.
New laws come into effect from Monday banning social gatherings of more than six people in England in the wake of rising rates of coronavirus infection.
Cases have continued to skyrocket across Greater Manchester since Monday.
Bolton’s infection rate is now six times the national average, with 179 cases per 100,000 people. The district has a positivity rate of around 10 percent, according to the latest statistics, three times the level that ministers are generally comfortable with.
Tameside’s numbers have doubled in seven days, now also creeping towards a rate of 100, as have Bury and Stockport’s.
Eight of the 10 districts of Greater Manchester show upward trends week after week.
GMP City Center revealed details of the house party on social media.
It is understood that the owner was imposed a fixed fine.
All attendees were asked to leave.
The force published: “The agents found a party in the center of the city with more than 30 attendees.
“The occupant claimed that he did not know that Covid restrictions existed and could not see what the problem was.
“People dispersed and a fixed penalty notice was issued.”
The force did not give an exact location.
The chairman of the body representing grassroots police officers urged people to look out for each other and avoid parties before the introduction of the new rules.
John Apter of the Police Federation of England and Wales said: “There is a real risk that some members of the public will take advantage of the current situation and treat this weekend as a holiday weekend before tighter restrictions. strict to be introduced on Monday. “
Coronavirus cases in the UK have risen to the highest level since mid-May, with a total of 3,539 new cases registered on Friday.
