Public Health Wales is investigating a series of coronavirus cases at a Merthyr Tydfil factory.
The set of cases has been linked to the General Dynamics plant, where around 250 people work to assemble armored vehicles for the army.
A Public Health Wales spokesperson said: “Public Health Wales can confirm that we are investigating a small number of coronavirus cases at the General Dynamics factory in Merthyr Tydfil.
“We handle any coronavirus case appropriately, including providing advice on infection prevention and control, and supporting contact tracing when necessary.
“We are currently monitoring a worrying increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases in many communities in Wales.
“The public is reminded that it plays a vital role in preventing the spread of the virus.
“Maintaining social distancing measures, that is, staying 2 m away from people who are not at home, washing your hands regularly and isolating yourself when requested, is absolutely essential to prevent further transmission of the virus and to protect all members of society. “
A spokesperson for General Dynamics Land Systems – UK said: “We are engaged with Public Health Wales in a small number of cases.
“We remain focused on protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers and the community.”
The neighboring Caerphilly authority was closed Tuesday night and this week, Rhondda Cynon Taf’s council leader Andrew Morgan warned the county risks joining Caerphilly in the shutdown “if the numbers continue to grow” in the local area.
Figures released this week revealed that there is actually a higher percentage of positive cases in Merthyr Tydfil. You can read more about these figures here.
