We are approaching a new season and do you know what that means? A new FIFA game.
The coronavirus pandemic has pushed the entire sports calendar back, and the virtual world is not exempt.
The latest EA Sports version of the popular video game will be out on October 6, one day after the transfer window closes, instead of its usual September release.
But while we won’t get our hands on FIFA 21 in September, we will find out which players have received an update to their previous ratings.
The ratings reveal has become something of a ceremony in recent years, with EA Sports counting the top 100 players two weeks before the game’s launch.
Many things can change during a season, which means that previous ratings can expire very quickly. For example, Mason Greenwood and Gabriel Martinelli are not even in their seventies.
But it’s not just young players who prove their worth during a season, the likes of Danny Ings have also proven to be underrated.
Here, talkSPORT.com picks a player from each Premier League club who can expect improvement.
Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli – 68 to 75
The teenage boy wonder was turning out to be one of Arsenal’s best players before a knee injury cruelly ended his 2019/20 campaign.
It looks like you’ll be ruling it out until 2021, but don’t expect your ten goals in 23 matches to go unnoticed in FIFA 21.
Aston Villa: Jack Grealish – 77 to 82
After creating the second most chances in the Premier League last season, behind only Kevin De Bruyne, Grealish has risen to the England squad and should also climb to eighty in FIFA.
It only remains to be seen whether he will wear an Aston Villa jersey or a Manchester United jersey.
Burnley: Nick Pope – 80 to 83
English has established himself among the best goalkeepers in Europe.
Indeed, Pope narrowly missed the Premier League Golden Glove last season, earning just one clean sheet less than Manchester City’s Ederson.
Brighton: Ben White – 68 to 74
If this transfer window has told you anything, it’s that a lot of people think it’s pretty good. Chelsea and Liverpool were linked.
Not only did Leeds offer £ 25 million for him after such a good loan period, but Brighton turned him down and offered him a great new deal.
Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze – 71 to 75
What a Crystal Palace signing.
Eze lit up the Championship last season and that should be reflected in the 22-year-old’s new rating.
Chelsea: Billy Gilmour – 62 to 72
Perhaps the most underrated player in FIFA? No one will get a bigger upgrade than Billy Gilmour, who embarrassed Liverpool’s midfield on his debut in February.
Like Martinelli, an untimely injury slowed his progress, but at least now we know how talented he is.
Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 77 to 80
The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti made Calvert-Lewin one of the most consistent scorers in the Premier League last season.
He is still only 23 years old and rumors linked him to a £ 50 million move to Man United, so he surely deserves an update.
Fulham: Joe Bryan – 73 to 76
Give this guy an upgrade based solely on his final Play-Off heroics.
But apart from scoring the two goals that they sent to Fulham (from the left back), Bryan was one of their most prominent players throughout the campaign.
Leeds: Kalvin Phillips – 75 to 78
If it’s good enough for Gareth Southgate, it’s good enough for us.
Phillips was so good last season that he got into the England squad without making a single Premier League appearance.
Leicester: Caglar Soyuncu – 79 to 83
The Turkish international has gone from a relatively unknown outcast of Leicester to a Barcelona target in the space of one season.
That’s worth an update, we think.
Liverpool: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 83 to 85
Alexander-Arnold is by far the highest rated player on this list, but he’s still not enough.
Many would rank the Liverpool and England star among the best in the world, so the 83 rating should be improved.
Manchester City: Phil Foden 76-80
Is this the season that Foden finally steps out of David Silva’s shadow? Maybe not if a certain Lionel Messi arrives.
It was still a breakthrough season for the young Englishman, who is sure to become a star in the Etihad regardless.
Manchester United: Mason Greenwood – 67 to 76
He is 18 years old, is a starter for Man United and broke into double figures in the Premier League last season.
Enough said, really.
Newcastle: Allan Saint-Maximin – 79 to 81
Ask any Newcastle fan and they’ll tell you this guy needs an update.
Especially since he managed to provide such inspiration in a relatively average team, like Grealish.
Sheffield United: John Egan – 77 to 79
You could pick any of the last three from Sheffield United, but we picked Egan.
Chris Basham and George Baldock are sure to rise too, as will most of Chris Wilder’s team.
Southampton: Danny Ings – 76 – 80
It’s been a while, but after a career nearly ruined by injuries, Ings is among the best forwards in the Premier League.
The Englishman was just one goal away from Jamie Vardy’s Golden Boot win total last season.
Tottenham: Japhet Tanganga – 65 – 71
José Mourinho’s record with youth is not the best, so it makes you stand up and realize when the Spurs coach chooses Tanganga.
While his playing time was shortened and he was hit by injury, the 21-year-old was truly impressive during his brief stint with the team.
West Brom: Matheus Pereira – 76 – 79
Eight goals and 16 assists (16!) Will not go unnoticed by the EA Sports team.
We expect the Brazilian playmaker to make a name for himself in the Premier League next season.
West Ham: Declan Rice – 78 – 82
The English international is much more than a midfield destroyer and that is not really reflected in his current rating.
This is a highly technical player and it’s no wonder West Ham is asking Chelsea to pay £ 80m for him.
Wolves: Adama Traore – 74 to 80
If Liverpool and Manchester City are after you, then you shouldn’t have a 74 rating on FIFA.
In his day, Traore is simply unstoppable and his potential is terrifying now that he has added an end product to his game.
