Jacob Blake, the black man who was shot seven times by a white police officer in the US state of Wisconsin last month, said he is in constant pain in a video posted online.
Mr. Blake, who according to his family may now be paralyzed from the waist down, also gave a note of hope, saying there was “much more life to live.”
The 29-year-old was shot in the back while being arrested.
The incident reignited protests of racism and police brutality in the United States.
Some of the protests in Kenosha, the city where Blake was shot, turned violent, with two people killed.
The investigation into the Mr. Blake shooting continues.
Meanwhile, Blake appeared in court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges brought before the shooting.
What did Mr. Blake say?
In a video posted on Twitter by his family’s attorney, Blake, still in his hospital bed, spoke of the pain he was suffering.
“Every 24 hours is pain, nothing but pain. It hurts to breathe, it hurts to sleep, it hurts to move from one place to another, it hurts to eat,” he said.
“Your life, and not just your life, your legs, something you need to move and move forward in life, can be taken away in this way,” he said, snapping his fingers.
“Stick together, make some money, make everything easier for our people, man, because there is a lot of time that has been wasted,” he added.
How did the shooting happen?
A police officer shot Mr. Blake while trying to arrest him as he tried to get into a car where his three children were sitting.
Mr. Blake was not armed when he was shot, but investigators found a knife in his car.
