Ryan Fraser has agreed to join Newcastle and will undergo a medical examination on Monday.

The Scottish international has been a free agent since his contract with Bournemouth ended in June, when he chose not to sign an extension to play at Vitality Stadium following the restart of the Premier League season.

Fraser has been linked to a move to West Ham and Crystal Palace, but after having face-to-face conversations with Steve Bruce on Friday, he decided his future lies in Tyneside.

The 26-year-old will undergo a medical examination on the same day as his former Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson, who landed in Newcastle on Sunday and is set to join the club on a £ 20 million contract.

Wilson was the subject of a bidding war between Aston Villa and Newcastle, and Villa withdrew his £ 21 million offer for the 28-year-old forward after learning of his preference to move to St James’ Park.

Sky Sports News reported Wednesday that Newcastle had had initial talks with Fraser, but that personal terms had yet to be agreed upon, and that the winger was eager to move to Tyneside to be closer to his family in Aberdeen.

Fraser joined Bournemouth for £ 400,000 in January 2013 and helped them gain promotion to League One in his first season at the club before earning promotion to the Premier League with them two years later.

He went on to make 229 appearances during his six-and-a-half-year stint at Vitality Stadium, scoring 30 goals for the club in that time.

Newcastle are stepping up their efforts in this transfer window after agreeing to a £ 13.5 million fee for left-back Jamal Lewis with Norwich on Saturday.

Bournemouth remains interested in a deal for former player Matt Ritchie, who signed a new contract with Newcastle in March, although the midfielder’s salary may be a problem.
