Police have declared a major incident in Birmingham city center after officers were called in to report multiple stabbings.
West Midlands Police say officers were called in to report a stabbing in the city center at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
In a statement, the force said: “We attended immediately, along with colleagues from the ambulance service.
“Several other stabbings were reported in the area shortly after.
“We are aware of the existence of a number of injuries, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious they are.
“However, all emergency services are working together on the scene and making sure that the injured receive medical attention.
“This has been declared a major incident.
“Work is still being done to establish what happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything.”
“At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.
Police said a response would be ongoing “for some time” and that cordons were in place.
