Anti-immigration protesters have blocked the A20 highway to Dover in both directions.
Police clashed with protesters at the entrance to Dover Harbor, and several officers were seen restraining a person on the ground. The person was arrested.
Some protesters chanted Rule, Britannia! as they marched in the direction of the city.
At least 40 officers are at the scene along the A20.
Previously, a group of around 60 people shouting anti-immigrant slogans was seen moving along the Dover boardwalk.
Meanwhile, pro-immigrant activists gathered in Market Square in the city for a demonstration organized by the Kent Anti Racism Network.
Addressing a crowd of around 100, Kent Refugee Help’s Peter Keenan said that when society sees people fleeing war and rejects them “that says something about the state of their society.”
He continued: “We are not those people. We stand and welcome people in desperate circumstances fleeing horrible situations.”
On Friday night the words “Rise above fear. Refugees are welcome” were broadcast to the White Cliffs of Dover by the humanitarian charity Freedom From Torture.
