People have been woken up to loud knocks when a massive fire broke out in an industrial building in Kent, said to be near a vacation home park.

Ten fire crews are fighting the large fire in Vicarage Lane, Hoo, which started around 5 a.m.

Neighbors took to Twitter to report that they had heard a “big bang.”

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Firefighters are advising the public to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

“ There is also a lot of smoke coming out of the fire, so people who live or work near the fire area and the smoke plume, which includes the Hoo Peninsula, are now advised to close the windows and doors. As a precautionary measure. ‘

A witness who spoke to Kent Online said: ‘I have seen gas bottles go off hundreds of feet up, this is the worst fire I have ever seen. It’s two minutes from my house.

“There is a large park of vacation homes next to the fire.”

Others posted photos and videos of the fire on social media, with some witnesses claiming flames could be seen 100 feet in the air.

Nick Akerman, who said his home ‘shook’ during an explosion, said people were now being evacuated from the area.
