Chelsea is in talks with Rennes about goalkeeper Edouard Mendy after ending his interest in Lille’s Mike Maignan.
Maignan was high on Chelsea’s goalkeeping roster, and manager Frank Lampard was looking to increase competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
However, Lille wanted £ 32 million for the 25-year-old, which was somewhat higher than the player’s expected £ 22 million valuation.
Maignan is not happy that a deal was not reached before joining the France team for this weekend’s game against Sweden in the Nations League.
Chelsea and Lille couldn’t agree on a rate for goalkeeper Mike Maignan
Chelsea manager Petr Cech has strong ties to Rennes and will have been involved in identifying Mendy as a target.
Chelsea are now expected to put all their efforts into securing a deal, which would see Mendy move to London for a fee of around £ 18 million.
Summer Transfer Period: Key Dates and Times
The summer transfer window will last 10 weeks starting July 27 and will close at 11 pm on October 5.
A national-only window for exchanges between the Premier League and EFL runs from October 5 and closes on Friday, October 16 at 5 p.m.
