Chelsea have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Kai Havertz, according to reports.
Sky in Germany says a deal worth £ 89 million (€ 100 million) has been reached between the two clubs, with the Blues paying £ 72 million up front and the rest as add-ons.
Negotiations concluded on Wednesday and Havertz wants the transfer to be finalized as soon as possible, although he has yet to undergo a medical examination and remains with Germany’s national team for their Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland.
Chelsea have offered the summer signing of central defender Malang Sarr to Leverkusen on loan throughout the 2020/21 season to sweeten the deal.
Sarr recently joined the Blues on a free transfer, and terms at Stamford Bridge left Nice at the end of last season.
Havertz will become Chelsea’s SEVENTH signing when his arrival is finally announced, following Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Xavier Mbuyamba and the aforementioned Sarr to West London.
And more transfer business is expected as Chelsea are preparing to make another offer for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy after his initial offer was rejected.
Additionally, West Ham United’s Declan Rice also remains a Frank Lampard target ahead of the October transfer deadline.
Havertz, who has scored 46 goals in 150 appearances for Leverkusen despite his youth, has long been praised as one of Germany’s brightest talents.
He has been compared to French legend Zinedine Zidane for his intellect and fluency on the pitch, and also to compatriot Michael Ballack, who played for Chelsea, for his incredible record heading into goal.
