The coronavirus is a “mental illness,” according to the husband of a government minister.

Sandy McFadzean, who is married to Conservative MP and Cabinet Office Minister Chloe Smith, was on a march against COVID-19 restrictions last weekend.

According to the Eastern Daily Press, McFadzean has retweeted posts in the past that describe the government as “globalist puppets” and “tyrants.”

A poster from Saturday’s Unite For Freedom march called for an end to social distancing, coronavirus follow-up and follow-up and the use of face covers.

The Eastern Daily Press reported that McFadzean, who is employed by Credit Suisse as vice president, wrote on Twitter: “COVID-19 is most likely an outbreak of mental illness.”

Another message read: “The government must be clear.

“Either there is a killer virus on the loose or there isn’t (Spoiler alert: there isn’t).”

The newspaper reported that McFadzean’s Twitter account was taken down on Wednesday after he attempted to contact the Norwich North MP for comment.

In response, the Eastern Daily Press quoted Ms. Smith as saying, “My husband is a private citizen. Everyone has the right to have their own point of view and to debate. I have a different point of view.”

The Conservative Party has not responded to a request for comment, while Credit Suisse also declined to comment.

Clive Lewis, a Labor MP from the neighboring Norwich South constituency, said: “There is no way I am holding anyone accountable for the opinions of your partner.

“However, if my partner was unleashing a COVID conspiracy, anti-vaccination nonsense, it is very likely that the issue will be discussed at some point over tea.”

Councilwoman Natasha Harpley, leader of the Labor Group in Broadland Council, tweeted: “Chloe Smith is not her husband’s guardian, but what a shame.

“What an insult to the 1000 who have died and those who experience real mental illness.

“I hope that her ignorance has not compromised the health of both her and those she meets while performing her duties as a deputy.”
