Donny van de Beek’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal were among the clubs interested in signing the Manchester United midfielder.
Van de Beek will become United’s first signing in the summer transfer window after talks with Ajax progressed rapidly over the weekend.
The 23-year-old was also on Real Madrid’s radar with agent Sjaak Swart who revealed that six teams were interested in a summer move, including the Gunners, who were unable to raise the funds to reach a deal.
“Manchester United is definitely the right choice,” he told Ajax Showtime.
“There were more clubs with interest, such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal. There were six in total, but it was all over because of the coronavirus ”.
Swart suggested that Real Madrid was close to reaching a deal for van de Beek earlier this year, a move that fell through when football stopped.
“It was already a common matter in March for him to go to Madrid, but because of the virus all that has been postponed.
“The clubs have no income and they couldn’t sell players. In the end Manchester United moved on and of course they are a very nice club. “
Swart added that Arsenal’s interest in the Dutchman was concrete, but could not comply with Ajax’s valuation, and it was understood that United was paying £ 40 million to bring him to Old Trafford.
“Yes, they really wanted it,” he added.
“But they just couldn’t get the money for a transfer. Even the biggest clubs fight. Arsenal are a great club, but Manchester United will certainly be an interesting adventure. “
