Stuart Dallas has criticized the schedule for next week’s international matches and their impact on Leeds United’s Premier League preparations.
Eight of Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad are currently out for their countries and are missing valuable training time ahead of his Anfield visit to champion Liverpool in 11 days.
Much of that octet will not surface at Thorp Arch to train with Bielsa until four or three days before the start of the Premier League.
Speaking to BBC Radio Ulster’s Sportsound last week, Dallas said it felt this round of international matches should not be played.
“I can’t help but feel that these games shouldn’t be played. I don’t know if that’s controversial or not, but I think it’s disrupting everything. “
He added: “It’s ridiculous [that the 2020-21 Premier League season is starting less than a week after the international break].
“The Champions League just ended last week and now some of those players have to go straight to their international teams.
“Especially with what’s happening around the world with travel restrictions and all the rules with quarantine.”
Dallas is with Northern Ireland, who play Romania on Friday night before hosting Norway in Belfast on September 7, and are unlikely to suffer as much as some of their United teammates.
Ezgjan Alioski, absent with North Macedonia, was the example Dallas pointed to on the radio. The 28-year-old is due to play in Georgia on the night of September 8, more than 2,200 miles from West Yorkshire.
“For the English leagues, it comes at the most ridiculous moment,” Dallas said. “We have players who may not come back until Wednesday or Thursday, two days before Liverpool.
“It’s crazy that they have to do this. I say that about a young Alioski, who plays with us. He is from Macedonia. He has a trip around the world to return.

“They are out of Georgia or somewhere and have three transfers to go back to Leeds on Wednesday or Thursday, two days before Liverpool.
