Valencia have become the latest suitor for Arsenal rebel Matteo Guendouzi, while Unai Emery plans a play for the Frenchman.
Matteo Guendouzi may have found an exciting opportunity to meet his former boss, Unai Emery, as Valencia have now conducted an investigation on the Arsenal star, according to Super Sport.
The Frenchman is expected to leave the club this summer after his fight with Mikel Arteta and has even been linked to a transfer for Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, it seems that Valencia have identified him as a perfect alternative to their main targets in Yangel Herrera and Etienne Capoue.
Guendouzi, who was considered one of the most promising players in the Premier League before the start of the 2019/20 campaign, has suffered a rapid fall from grace over the 12 months.
The young midfielder initially fell out with Arteta and his coaching staff earlier this year, during his training camp in Dubai. Also, his lack of temperament and overly aggressive attitude is not highly favored by the Arsenal manager and was evident after his fight with Neal Maupay, in the game against Brighton & Hove Albion, right after Project Restart.
That was Guendouzi’s last game as an Arsenal player, and the midfielder has not appeared in a single match since. It was combined with the rapid improvement of Dani Ceballos as well as the rejuvenation of Granit Xhaka.
And while Arsenal have had to deal with the departure of Ceballos this summer when he returned to Real Madrid, the club is adamant about selling off Guendouzi, who will also be desperate to get away from Emirates in an attempt to revive his career.
Valencia, in that sense, could be an intriguing option. The Spanish team is on the hunt for a new central midfielder following the departure of Dani Parejo and former Arsenal star Francis Coquelin earlier this summer.
Guendouzi could be a good fit in Emery’s 4-2-3-1 double pivot, alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia. He already knows Emery well enough, as the Spanish manager had played a key role in his initial rise to prominence during 2018/19. Therefore, the youngster should not have a hard time finding a regular playing time in Valencia.
Arsenal, however, will not be keen to ditch their prized asset for a reduced price. In fact, the sale of Guendouzi could serve as one of its main sources of income amid the coronavirus pandemic that has hit the club financially. So it will be interesting to see if Valencia can match the midfielder’s price this summer.
