Two RAF Typhoon fighter jets rushed to intercept a Ryanair flight that landed at Stansted airport tonight after “suspicious objects” were found in an onboard toilet.

Armed police surrounded a Laudamotion flight arriving in London Stansted from Vienna after it landed around 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

Passenger Joanna Czechowska said two men were boarded and taken away by Essex police after “suspicious objects” were found in the bathrooms.

Ryanair, the owner of Laudamotion, said its crew was alerted to a “potential security threat” while on board.

A company spokesperson said: “The crew of a Ryanair flight from Vienna to London Stansted were alerted tonight of a possible security threat on board.

In accordance with procedures, the captain informed the UK authorities and continued to London Stansted, where the aircraft landed normally and taxied to a remote post where the passengers safely disembarked.

Passengers at London Stansted waiting to depart for Vienna were transferred to a spare plane to minimize the delay in their flight.

“This is now a matter for the local police.”

Passengers on board say the plane was surrounded by armed Essex Police officers after it stopped in an isolated part of the airport.

It is understood that the police have withdrawn from the scene.

Both Typhoons flew over the airport several times, before the passenger flight landed at the scene.

An RAF spokesperson said: ‘RAF Coningsby Typhoon fighter jets were launched tonight to intercept a civilian aircraft. The plane was escorted safely to Stansted.

The planes are then believed to have headed in the direction of Cheltenham to refuel, before appearing to be heading back towards base at RAF Coningsby.
