A TUI flight from Zante to Cardiffhas been identified as the source of at least seven confirmed coronavirus cases.
Public Health Wales said in a statement Sunday that the cases stem from three different infectious parties that were aboard TUI Flight 6215 from the island to the Welsh capital on Aug. 25.
Everyone on the flight is now ordered to isolate themselves at home.
Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for Outbreak Response at Public Health Wales, said: “Cardiff and Vale Test Trace Protect and Public Health Wales have identified at least seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 from three different parties that were infectious. on TUI flight 6215 from Zante to Cardiff on August 25.
“As a result, we are reporting that all passengers on this flight are considered close contacts and should isolate themselves.
“These passengers will be contacted shortly but, in the meantime, they must isolate themselves at home, as they can become infectious even without developing symptoms. Anyone with symptoms should book a test without delay. “

Dr Shankar also said that Public Health Wales research “has indicated that a lack of social distancing, particularly by a minority of the 20-30 age group, has resulted in the spread of the virus to other groups. of people “and added:” I would make a direct call to young people to remember that even if they feel that they would not be seriously affected by Covid-19 if they had a positive test result, if they transmitted it to older people or more members vulnerable family, friends or colleagues, could be extremely serious, even fatal. “

Dr. Shankar said the virus had not gone away and issued a reminder to follow safety procedures over the holiday weekend.
