Greater Manchester Police have released pictures of a man they would like to track down

A woman has been stabbed in a “cruel and unprovoked attack” while walking with her 5-year-old son.

Greater Manchester Police said the 24-year-old man was approached by a man with a knife on Rudheath Avenue, Withington, around 1:30 p.m. BST on Saturday.

She suffered leg injuries in the attack and was taken to hospital where she is stable.

The boy was evaluated on the spot by the emergency services and had no visible injuries.

Police have released images of a man they want to question about the attack and are treating him as an attempted murder.

The man was last seen walking towards Bromborough Avenue and then continuing in the direction of Whitchurch Road.

Det Insp John Robb said: “This was a cruel and unprovoked attack and we are currently treating it as an attempted murder case.”

“I understand this will cause concern among the local community and residents, but I want to assure the public that we are doing everything in our power to locate the man responsible and ensure that he is brought to justice.”
