A man who died after being shot in Stechford, Birmingham, on Friday was named Murtaza Nazir.

Nazir was shot on Bagshaw Road in Stechford shortly before 8 p.m. Friday and police launched a murder investigation.

His family issued a statement through the police, saying their lives “would never be the same again.”

They said, “Our broken lives and broken hearts.

“As a family we are united and trying to heal, but the process will not be easy. As a family, we have not only lost a father, husband, son, brother, we have lost our friend and protector.

“Everyone who knew him will have their own unique memory with him, and that, in these difficult times, will help them get through it.

“All we ask is that we pray for our loved one and that the videos circulating on social media be removed. We do not want to see these distressing images. These are difficult times for us and we hope that people can show compassion for our feelings.

“We thank the police and the ambulance service for their help and we are eternally grateful. To God we belong and to God we will return. Justice will be served. If not in this life, then in the hereafter.”

West Midlands Police have asked for witnesses or anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
