Mikel Arteta was full of praise for David Luiz after revealing that the defender trained just one day before Arsenal’s win over Liverpool at the Community Shield.

Arsenal beat Liverpool on penalties, with Luiz starting at the heart of the defense even though he only joined the first team days before the match.

Arteta praised his entire team for keeping Liverpool at bay and singled out Luiz for his contribution.

“You never get used to it, I’m so happy,” Arteta said after the victory.

‘I knew the challenge we faced today against this incredible opponent.

‘David [Luiz]For example, trained one day before the final, he was able to play the 90 minutes.

‘So many thanks to the players for the effort and the performance.

‘The courage of the team [impressed me], how aggressive we were without the ball, how well we made the decisions to break Liverpool’s pressure and put some issues against them on the baseline they have, and I’m glad [because] I knew that in the second part we were going to suffer.

“We had no legs, we have been training for two weeks, but on penalties again I think the boys had a lot of courage to correct them.

‘I think in the last ten minutes we took the ball, we played in the last third, we were able to dominate, we created two good chances to win it too, but I’m very happy with how they competed.

‘Hopefully they can get used to it. Build belief.

“ We still have a lot of things to improve, but being able to compete against these types of teams in a final like this one makes me very proud.

Let’s try to improve again.
