Leeds United secured SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, making his second transfer in one day.

Germany’s 24-year-old international central defender had attracted increasing interest in Elland Road, and the newly promoted Premier League team failed to reward Brighton’s Ben White.

Earlier on Saturday, Leeds broke their transfer record when they completed a £ 27 million deal for striker Rodrigo de Valencia.

Koch had posted his farewell to Freiburg fans on social media and later that night, Leeds confirmed the acquisition of the center, who made his breakthrough with SV Eintracht Trier.

He then moved to local club 1. FC Kaiserslautern, with whom he also spent time during his youth career.

In three seasons with Freiburg, who finished eighth in last season’s Bundesliga, Koch played 87 games and scored five goals.

Koch has been inducted into Germany’s last team and could make more appearances in his upcoming matches against Spain and Switzerland.

Record deal

It has been a very lively weekend for Marcelo Bielsa’s club that signed Rodrigo. His contract will run until the summer of 2024.

Rodrigo scored 59 goals in 220 appearances for Valencia after arriving from Benfica in 2014, initially on loan, and reinforces Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking options ahead of Leeds’ first season in the English top flight for 16 years.

Leeds had already signed five players this summer before the weekend, while Jack Harrison has returned from Manchester City for a second loan.

Leeds will face Liverpool at Anfield in their first game of the Premier League season on September 12, live on Sky Sports.

Within the Leeds de Bielsa transfer plan

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa became a lifelong hero in the city after guiding the Yorkshire club back to the Premier League last season after a 16-year absence.

However, with the Argentine’s contract running out this summer, Leeds fans are eager to know when the 65-year-old will put pen to paper in a new deal.

Not only that, but the club’s fans also want to know which players will be arriving at Elland Road for their return to the top flight next season.
