Wwhich, as you’ve probably guessed, will suit sprinters.

But who are the favorites? Well first of all, unlike most years, the field in this year’s race is a bit light on the crème de la crème of the fastmen. There is no Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) or the fit Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) as both teams have chosen to support their respective overall classification contenders. However, there are still several top-level sprinters here, with the pick of the crop being Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal_ and Sam bennett (Deceuninck-Quick Step). Both will start today’s stage as favorites to win the first yellow jersey in this year’s race.

However, there are others who could win. Italian and European road racing champion Giacomo Nizzolo (NTT) will be confident after his midweek win over Démare in the Europeans, while Elia Viviani (Cofidis) could end his new team’s eternal wait for a Tour stage win if he wins.

One rider I’m looking forward to seeing this year is the 25-year-old Dutchman. Cees Bol (Sunweb) you can imagine your possibilities, but you will not be the only one. Bryan coquard (B&B Hotels-Vital Concept), Sonny colbrelli (Bahrain-McLaren) and, of course, Peter sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) will all be there or there after about four hours of racing.
