Leeds United have broken their transfer record to sign striker Rodrigo from Valencia. The Spanish international has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road and will cost newcomers to the Premier League £ 30 million.
The 29-year-old, who has 22 appearances for Spain, has previous Premier League experience after spending the 2010-11 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers. Rodrigo is the last of several players to leave Valencia this summer after Dani Parejo, Francis Coquelin and Ferran Torres.
“I am very excited and very happy to join the club in this important season for all of us,” said Rodrigo. “It is a new step in my career and I want to help the team achieve the objectives of the season. Leeds have been working on this agreement with Valencia for two weeks, we knew that Valencia has some problems now because we did not win the Champions League.
“From the first time Victor (Orta, football director) spoke to me, I knew he wanted this new challenge with Leeds. I will work with one of the best coaches (Marcelo Bielsa) in football, he has done important things in different clubs and I am excited to learn ”.
Rodrigo, born in Brazil, began his career at Real Madrid before moving to Benfica. Last season he scored the goal of the goal for Valencia in a 1-0 Champions League win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
