And the Serie A club have made inquiries with the Saudis as progress at St.James’ Park stagnates.
Roma owner James Pallotta has hired Goldman Sachs to find a buyer for his club and is aware of the situation at Newcastle.
The delay in acquiring the Premier League club comes despite signed papers being lodged at Companies House five weeks ago, reports the Daily Star.
Italian reports claim that Pallotta is not trying to hijack any deal and does expect the takeover of Newcastle to go through.
Talks have previously been held with the Crown Prince and, should things not materialize in the north east, want to know whether their interest still exists.
It is no secret that the Saudi Royal Family are looking to involve themselves in European football.
Pallotta has long been trying to sell Roma – a club who are regularly in European competition.
And he believes they would present a strong alternative to Newcastle, who themselves are facing opposition from some Premier League sides regarding the takeover.
Questions have been asked as to whether the Saudis would pass the league’s fit and proper owners test.
While BeIN Sports, the Qatar-based firm, have bought to light TV piracy issues that exist in the Middle East.
Parliament have said they would not get involved in the matter but MPs now want things investigated.
Two of which have come out and said that they want the government to block the potential deal.
