Former Coronation Street star Philip Middlemiss is wanted by police in Africa over an alleged £ 5million air bribery scandal, it has been claimed.
The actor, 56, is one of four people to have been named by investigators in Ghana, The Sun reports.
He is best known for playing Corrie’s womanising bookie Des Barnes for eight years in the nineties.
Police want to bring him in for questioning over the sale of three Airbus C-295 military planes to the West African state.
I’ve moved there to make a film but ran out of funding before it was finished and then worked as a “travel consultant”, it’s claimed.
Middlemiss said in one interview that his best friend’s brother was vice-president of the country.
Former Ghana president John Dramani Mahama is accused of having links to a group that received illicit payments during the contract process.
Four people have been summoned for questioning and their passport details have been released online by Ghana’s special prosecutor Martin Amidu.
This includes Middlemiss, two other Britons and a UK / Ghanaian citizen.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor issued a public notice saying the four “are hereby invited to assist the on-going investigation of bribery and corruption”.

Middlemiss was suspected of working as a project manager for Airbus.
The investigation also includes “collaborating with Ghanaian public officers to use their public office for private profit or benefit in the purchase of three C-295 aircraft by the Government of Ghana from Airbus”.
