Dele Alli was injured during a burglary at his home in North London. The Tottenham midfielder was held at knife point and beaten after the robbers entered during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 24-year-old was hit in the face during the terrifying incident, but has not suffered serious injuries. There he has been isolating himself with his brother and their respective partners.
Two men broke into the property just after midnight on Wednesday morning and threatened the England international. He suffered a facial injury before the intruders fled.
“Thanks for all the messages,” Alli posted on Twitter. “Horrible experience, but we are all fine now. I appreciate the support.”
The attackers seized numerous items from the house, including jewelry and watches. The police are understood to be reviewing CCTV footage of the incident at Hadley Wood.
Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 00:35 on Wednesday May 13 to receive reports of a robbery at a residential address in Barnet.
“Two men managed to break into the property and stole jewelry, including watches, before fleeing. A male occupant of the property, in his 20s, suffered a minor facial injury after being assaulted. It did not require hospital treatment. There are no arrests; investigations into the circumstances continue. “
A Spurs spokesperson added: “We have been offering our support to Dele and those who isolate themselves with him. We encourage anyone with any information to help the police with their investigation to introduce themselves. “
Alli and her Spurs teammates are in the process of meeting the Premier League about Project Restart as they work to return to action next month.
The latest raid comes two months after Jan Vertonghen’s family was robbed at knife point while Alli Tottenham’s teammate was out of service in the Champions League. Vertonghen was part of the squad that traveled to Germany for the last 16-second leg against RB Leipzig in March when four robbers in balaclavas raided their home. They were armed with knives, but Vertonghen’s wife and two children were unharmed.
In November Ashley Smith was jailed for 10 years for trying to steal £ 200,000 worth of luxury watches from Mesut Özil and Sead Kolasinac from Arsenal.
Smith and his accomplice, who were armed with makeshift blades during the incident last July, were rejected by Kolasinac. Özil, whose wife was in the car, expelled the players from the ambush. Prospective thieves chased the Gunners couple on a stolen moped and threw stones at their vehicle causing “significant” damage.
