Championship clubs are reportedly preparing for a restart in June in a big boost for West Bromwich Albion’s promotion hopes.

The EFL chiefs held their last meeting today to discuss plans to resume the campaign that was suspended for two months due to the coronavirus crisis.

The Premier League hosted its latest round of talks on the proposed restart of the project on Monday.

This week’s meetings came after the government authorized the return of sporting events in June, while UEFA is reportedly willing to relax its May 25 deadlines for leagues to come up with plans to end the season.

Albion eagerly awaits a resolution that is on its way to returning to the top after a two-year absence before games were postponed.

According to ESPN, Slaven Bilic’s team could return to action as soon as June 6, before Preimer League games resume.

They claim that the EFL bosses are confident that the Championship season will be played to the end on the field, although the cancellation of League One and League Two is likely.

The report says: “Sources told ESPN that championship clubs now only wait to be briefed on security protocols involving testing, training and staging matches before launching large-scale preparations to return to action next month. “

The Baggies, like the rest of the Championship clubs, have nine games left to play. They have a six-point lead over third place Fulham and Leeds United leaders by one point.

The matches would be played behind closed doors with margin for the play-offs to determine the third club promoted.
