Good Morning Britain aired heated scenes on Tuesday, with Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan closing Edwina Currie.
The former MP first accused Susanna of failing to read the government’s plan to address the coronavirus blockade, which the debate focused on, as if she didn’t know what she was talking about.
Susanna simply shared the mixed and confusing messages regarding social distancing and seeing people from other homes.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s new rules include that people can see a member of a separate household, but from a distance.
But people are allowed to visit public places like parks surrounded by various strangers, as long as they are kept at a distance of two meters as well.
That said, the public is not allowed to be around more than one person they know, while they can be around more than one stranger.
Susanna wanted answers about the confusion, which led to a stinging accusation from Edwina, suggesting that the presenter was doing something out of nothing.
She awkwardly stated, “Well Susanna, the way you pose that question suggests to me that you haven’t actually read the government’s 50-page plan.”
Susanna responded to “correct it,” before Edwina continued to suggest that she simply did not understand the government’s message.
Piers’ co-host said, “Okay, okay, can I tell you okay? Because I’ve read every word of the 50-page government document.
“Sorry, what part of that said that I can meet my entire family together?”
Things got a little awkward as Edwina continued, “Well, explain very carefully if you know another home, and that family then meets another home which is a transmission rate that we can face but …”
Susanna interrupted: “Wait, I usually find many other homes, I just don’t know them.”
Edwina later accused Susanna of not having common sense, saying, “Well, with all due respect I want to hear from you, what do you not understand about social distancing and handwashing? It is common sense.”
Susanna then repeated her question and the public’s confusion, which led to another awkward moment.
She said: “Then I can be in the common field two meters away from many people I don’t know, but I am not allowed to meet more than one of those people, and if I see someone else I know I have to get away from them people I don’t know. “
While Susanna was clearly pointing out that it didn’t make sense, Edwina smiled when she told Susanna that she had finally figured it out.
She said, “That’s right, you have it, you have it. You keep your distance, that’s common sense.”
It was then that Piers stepped in to support his co-host and his comments, telling the former MP: “Edwina, the problem is that everything is nonsense, right? Obviously it doesn’t make common sense, it doesn’t make sense.”
Then it was his turn to confront, when Edwina asked him why he could have a cleaner come into his house, but he couldn’t make his youngest son join him and clean him.
Edwina went on to state that she “would have thought” that it was okay for her to visit Docks, which caused a lot of screaming.
I had just accused the hosts of interrupting her and purposely giving her less response time, saying, “Can I answer the question … wait, you’re asking me a question, let me answer … I’m trying to Piers, I’m trying to answer he asks, but you and Susanna keep interrupting.
“No wonder ministers don’t come if you keep doing that. Are you going to give me a chance? You’re wasting your response time if you do that, I know what you’re doing.”
She then accused Piers of “harassing” her, since he repeatedly asked her if her son could go to her house and be her cleaner.
His response led him to reply, “Look, that’s where you’re applying your common sense, unfortunately that is completely against the rules set by the conservative government.
“As I said at the beginning of the show, you’re talking about total flannel.”
Good Morning Britain airs Monday through Friday at 6 a.m.
