A police officer has been charged with murder following the death of a woman near Bournemouth.
Officers were called to the Horns Inn parking lot on Christchurch Road, West Parley, Dorset, Saturday afternoon after the ambulance service reported that two people were in need of medical assistance.
Claire Parry, 41, of Bournemouth, was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for treatment, but died on Sunday morning.
Timothy Brehmer, 41, a Dorset police officer who is said to be known to the victim, was arrested at the scene of the incident and taken to Poole Hospital for treatment for arm injuries. He was later released.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder following Parry’s death.
Brehmer was charged with murder on Monday and is due to appear in remote court in Poole magistrates court on Tuesday.
He was not on duty at the time of the incident, but the Dorset police said that due to his occupation and the seriousness of the charge, he has been sent to the Police Independent Office of Conduct.
Mark Callaghan, the assistant chief of police for the force, said: “Detectives from our top crime investigation team are leading the investigation into this incident.
“We have kept Ms. Parry’s family updated throughout the investigation and the Family Liaison Officers continue to support them. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends in this difficult time.
“Following investigations into this incident, we have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service, which has authorized a murder charge.
“It is important to emphasize that it would be completely inappropriate for the Dorset police to comment further on the judicial process. It is vital that the justice system be able to take its course.”
