the The Premier League received the green light to resume in June.
The UK government released a 50-page plan on Monday afternoon, detailing how the blocking restrictions will be eased in five steps.
In “step two” of the Government’s roadmap, it is established that “cultural and sporting events that will be held behind closed doors for transmission, while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact,” will be allowed to start from June 1.
However, any relief from the blocking restrictions and reaching “step two” of the plan depends entirely on whether the rates of coronavirus infection drop to an acceptable level, which means that the June 1 date may be delayed.
The Premier League has been suspended since March 9, while the final games of the season will take place next Sunday.
The 20 clubs have had extensive conversations about when the season can safely resume, while some teams have already allowed players to return to training camps individually.
However, fans will not be able to attend matches in stadiums and all games for the rest of the campaign will be played behind closed doors.
In its plan, the government warned that opening stadiums and venues that draw large crowds “can only be meaningfully possible later on depending on the reduction in the number of infections.”
The Premier League aims for matches to resume on June 12, but that plan should be approved by a majority of 14 teams.
Among the proposals has been the use of eight to 10 neutral locations to organize the remaining meetings.
But several clubs, including Watford and Norwich City, have opposed that suggestion.
