The coast guard rescued two men after trying to save a dog that had fallen into a stretch of water.

The couple dove into the sea in East Lothian on Saturday, May 9 to save their pet that had fallen on a boardwalk.

However, both were stranded on rocks near the old Cockenzie power station.

Scottish fire and rescue teams managed to pull the dog out of the water, but called the coast guard to help them with the two isolated men.

the The Kinghorn RNLI team was called at 1.30 p.m. and managed to rescue the couple.

Helm apprentice Megan Davidson said: “They were both taken to Cockenzie Port where they were checked by an ambulance team and were reunited with the dog.

“In these situations, we always recommend not going into the water and asking for help while keeping the stranded animal in sight.

“We appreciate that you don’t want to see your pet in trouble, but they invariably manage to get out on their own.”
