Police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a body was found on Sandall Road in Wisbech yesterday (May 9).

The suspect, who is from Wisbech, was taken to the Thorpe Wood police station after an investigation into the unexplained death of a 28-year-old man, also from Wisbech.

Detectives are now treating death as a murder case and Dr. Ben Swift will be conducting a post mortem examination at Peterborough City Hospital today (May 10).

Police received a report yesterday around 5:10 a.m. that a body had been discovered outside an industrial unit on Sandall Road, Wisbech.

The path remains closed while detectives conduct their investigations.

Chief Detectives Supt Martin Brunning of the Bed, Cambs and Herts Major Crimes Unit said: “This man was subjected to a brutal assault and we have a team of detectives dedicated to bringing the person or persons responsible to justice. “

He added that the victim’s family members are kept updated with the latest developments.

Additional police patrols were deployed in the city yesterday and this will continue until next week, Chief Detective Supt Martin Brunning said.

He said: “This is a tragic death. I am pleased that it is a contained incident and the officers working at Wisbech will be a reassuring presence for local people who may be alarmed by these events.

“I would urge anyone who thinks they know something about the murder, however insignificant it may seem, to contact the police.”
