Frustrated police admit they can’t stop people from filling parks and beaches during shutdown – the Sun

FRUSTRATED policemen attacked Britons who broke the lockdown today to eat pizza and drink beer in the parks despite Boris Johnson’s pleas to stay home.

A police force admitted that they were “losing the battle” and that they could not prevent people from packing green spaces and beaches in the hot heat.

The police were fighting today as hordes of people descended on beaches and green spaces to enjoy the temperate and continental climate.

In the capital, people flocked to the parks to drink wine and eat pizza.

Hackney Police tweeted, “Unfortunately, today we are waging a losing battle in the parks.”

“Literally hundreds of people sitting around eating pizza, beers, wines.

“As always, many thanks to those who are observing the #StayHomeSaveLives #ProtectOurNHS #lockdownuk guidelines.”

The Force at Lewisham also criticized Londoners for failing to achieve social distance over the weekend.

They tweeted: “You may feel like you are #SocialDistancing but you really are not.

“Putting ourselves at risk is not really what we need. 30-40 on the street they don’t drink and dance.”

It comes after the Lambeth Council was forced to close Brockwell Park in Brixton last month after hundreds of Britons headed to the green space for sunbathing.

Dozens of cyclists were also seen on the streets of the capital, grouped together in groups as they waited in the lights outside Westminster.

Similar scenes were reported in Manchester, with Heaton Park flooded with people sunbathing and having barbecues.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: “I was busier than I expected.

“A lot of people were walking, but some were having a picnic that you obviously are not supposed to do.”

Meanwhile, a police checkpoint rejected cars trying to enter Brighton when bored families broke the coronavirus blockade.

Locals cheered when tourists were turned away, expressing support for police efforts to maintain social distance by keeping visitors out of town over the holiday weekend.

And even before 11 a.m., cops had issued 12 fines and spun around 19 cars after stopping around 65.

A car was returned more than 100 miles to Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire.

A Sussex police spokesman said: “It is not a dedicated coronavirus arrest check, but as part of the routine detention check, we asked people why they are here, where they are going and they are turned around if not Do they have a purpose.”

Families flocked to the beach today to make the most of the sunny weather, just a day after the Coast Guard revealed it had the highest number of calls on Friday since the closure began.

97 incidents were recorded, 54% more than the 63 reports last month.

Matt Leat, service commander of the Coast Guard, said: “People ignore the measures implemented by the Government.

“I fully understand that the weather and the bank holiday, along with the fact that we have been in this confinement situation for just over six weeks, have tempted people to our beautiful shores. However, as the government said yesterday, it’s really vital that we all continue to observe the guide. “

John Griffiths of the Meteorological Office said: “Saturday will start well and dry for most. Large swaths will be dry and sunny.

“The cold front will bring clouds and outbreaks of rain and strong winds.

“It will be time to pack the shorts and take out the fleeces. Hopefully people can enjoy the weather sensibly before it takes a cold turn.”

The British already cracked yesterday, headed to the parks and hopped on their bikes for summer sunbathing, as St James’s Park in central London registered 24.3C (75.7F) on Friday.

The British were warned not to break the closing rules during VE Day celebrations and not to bask in the parks over the weekend or to stop the new “modest and small” freedoms.

Boris will reveal his plan to get the UK out of the shutdown tomorrow, with garden centers reopening in between measures.

The Prime Minister will also relax exercise rules to allow for unlimited walks, runs, or cycles.

Meanwhile, police officers complain that they are the “pandemic villains” as they prepare to crack down on Britons who ignore the rules of social estrangement over the long weekend.

One said The Times: “There is some unease and frustration before the weekend.

“We have always said that we need a clear and consistent message from the government to the public, but now there is an opinion that things are relaxing. Many people seem to have decided that everything is over.

“We are being asked to apply the closure and we are going to be painted as villains once more when we apprehend people who enjoy the sun and have VE Day parties with their neighbors.”
