World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro has expressed his sympathy to Liverpool for the current position they are in.
The Reds were just two wins away from being crowned Premier League champions and sat 25 points behind Manchester City in second place before football halted due to the coronavirus outbreak.
However, it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s team will not be denied their first league title in 30 years with plans in place for the Premier League to restart in June behind closed doors.
But for Cannavaro, no matter what happens from here, he believes the Reds deserve to celebrate the title after an “incredible” season.

“It is crazy, crazy,” he told Sky Sports News. “To be honest with you, I appreciate them because they did an incredible season, they did an incredible job.
“They deserve to win and celebrate this league. But unfortunately we are in this kind of situation. It’s a shame for them. “
The former Real Madrid and Juventus star is the last defender to win the Ballon d’Or in 2006.
Since then, the award has been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Cannavaro believes Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, who ranked second after Messi last season, is unlucky enough to take on two game greats at the moment.
“To be honest with you, I sent him a message to congratulate him on what he did last season,” he replied when asked about the Dutchman who came second in last year’s standings.
“As a defender, it is difficult. As a defender, you not only need to do well during your season, you not only need to win the trophies.
“Actually, you must be lucky not to have forwards like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the key.”
