Man arrested on suspicion of murder after body of 67-year-old woman found at home

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a house in Levenshulme.

Police were called to report a welfare concern at a property on Westminster Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday (May 7).

Emergency services attended and a 67-year-old woman was declared sadly dead at the scene.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Benjamin Cottam of the GMP Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of this woman who tragically lost her life and our specialist officers continue to support them in this distressing time.”

“Although we have a man in custody, our investigation is ongoing and I would like to emphasize that our detectives continue to work tirelessly to complete their inquiries.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene on Westminster Street.

“I would urge anyone with any information that can help officers in their investigation to get in touch as soon as possible.”

A police cordon remained in place outside a house on Westminster Street on Friday night (May 8).

Officers were photographed guarding a house.

A police car was also parked on the highway.
