After eight weeks of grueling culinary challenges, Thomas Frake has become the latest BBC One MasterChef winner.
The 32-year-old player, who lives in London and works in finance, beat David Rickett, 31, and Sandy Tang, 24, to become the show’s 16th winner.
Friday’s grand finale saw the remaining three chefs cook three dishes for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
Torode described the winner as “a true talent” and “a grafter”, while Wallace praised his “ultimate style”.
Thomas’ winning menu started with monkfish shrimp, continued with a beef cheek, and ended with a dessert of salted caramel cream pie.
Wallace called his “exceptional” efforts “adequate, old-fashioned, and cordial food” that “had his heart and soul on every fork.”
Thomas, who beat 59 other amateur chefs to win the 2020 MasterChef trophy, said his victory was “a dream come true.”
“I can’t see that she doesn’t work on food for the rest of my life because it makes me happy to see other people happy with her,” she continued.
Born in East London and raised with his three younger brothers in London and Kent, he now lives in South London with his girlfriend.
He said his ambition was to have a gastropub one day, “maybe a classic East End boozer or a quaint country pub.”
The 2020 MasterChef Final is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
