Chase’s new recruit, Darragh Ennis, lost thousands as a contestant on the show after he racked up £ 9,000 and his teammates accepted lower offers.
The Mirror exclusively revealed that Irish boffin Darragh, a researcher at the University of Oxford, has become the sixth hunter to join the ITV series, three years after his turn as a contestant.
However, his last turn at The Chase did not have a happy ending and his staggering losses made him a viral sensation.
Darragh performed a stellar performance for his team, racking up a whopping £ 9k, only to have his teammates waste £ 2,700 of the money by taking lower bids.
Viewers were so outraged that they launched a #Justicefordarragh campaign and crowdfunding page to help him recoup his Gofundme losses.
However, Darragh urged fans of The Chase not to be so hard on his teammates, telling them, “It’s so much easier on the couch.”

He tweeted, “Calm down with my teammates. It’s so much easier on the couch. #the chasing#comeandhaveagoifyouthinkyouarecleverenough”
The brain box added: ” #the chasing Thanks for all the support, but I would appreciate it if people could help my teammates. It’s difficult in front of the cameras. ”
Darragh went on to ask that any campaign money raised be donated to charities.
He wrote: ” #justicefordarragh confused / grateful for the support. If people want to donate, please support @HelenAndDouglas house instead. A great charity. ”

Three years after the drama, Darragh will team up with Anne Hegarty and Paul Sinha to fight the teams and stop them from making money on the show hosted by Bradley Walsh.
A source from the show told the Mirror: “Darragh has what it takes to be a hunter, they tested him and approved him with great success.”
“They don’t bring new members to The Chase regularly, so this is a big problem for the show and for Darragh. Viewers will be very interested to see how it goes.
“The program is so popular now with derivative programs, so you need to increase the team.”
“No one is leaving, Darragh is a great addition to the team.”

In November of last year, host Bradley hinted that new hunters may be on the way.
“Therefore, we have put our sensors to find other people who are suitable, and everything will be revealed next year.”
When asked if that meant that more than one new Hunter was joining the team, he replied: “It could be more than one, who knows. But it’s a proper shake. “
Then he said to Good Morning Britain: “Now we have a new Chaser for another new series. Everything is alright.”
