Killing Eve fans were shocked on Sunday night and Monday morning when a beloved character was killed in the third season debut.
The show hit BBC America on Easter Sunday before landing on BBC iPlayer the next morning, after which shock waves were sent out over the death.
Viewers crowded social media to mourn the death and fans wrote: ‘[He] deserved better … I didn’t deserve that … OMG they killed [him]! However, lead writer Suzanne Heathcote insisted that death was key to the plot.

Sean Delaney’s character Kenny Stowton meets a difficult ending in the new series when he is killed by a mysterious assailant in the middle of his investigation of The Twelve.
Eve, played by Sandra Oh, came across Kenny before seeing a body fly out the window, only to discover Kenny’s lifeless corpse outside.
Speaking before the death scene, writer Suzanne said, “It is difficult because Kenny is so dear and understandable.” Sean is a brilliant actor too. It’s always difficult to make those decisions …

The show’s new series launched two weeks ahead of schedule as a special treat for fans struggling with boredom.
Speaking of the move, Sandra said, “Particularly right now, this month in North America, and I’m sure you are, too, is a really difficult time.”

Sandra, who plays British intelligence agent Eve Polastri in the BBC thriller, went on to explain the pressure she faced to make the new season unique and interesting.

In the last two series, we’ve seen the intriguing Russian hitman Villanelle (Jodie Comer) obsess over British intelligence agent Eve Polastri, and vice versa.
The couple ranges from catching, killing, and falling in love.
The end of the series two cliffhanger ended with Villanelle shooting Eve and leaving her for dead, after the killer imagined living with Eve together in Alaska.
The new series begins six months later, with Villanelle apparently withdrawn from the game, living in Barcelona and about to get married for the first time.
