HEAD Medical Officer Tony Holohan has said he does not expect Covid-19’s current measures to change on May 5, as the death toll reached 1,190.
Speaking at a press conference last night, Dr. Tony Holohan said his advice would be “not to lift the restrictions.”
He said: “Five or six days remain between now and May 5, and we hope that we will continue to see progress.”
Yesterday, it was confirmed that 31 more people died from Covid-19 in Ireland.
There are now 1,190 Covid-19 related deaths and 20,253 confirmed cases in Ireland.
Meanwhile, the government’s Covid-19 response will take center stage when the Dáil returns today.
Both the Taoiseach and the Ministers of Health, Agriculture and Business, Business and Innovation will answer questions from opposition parties.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said Ireland “is not there yet” to ease blocking restrictions.
He said the numbers on ICU admissions, new cases and deaths due to Covid-19 in Ireland “are simply not good enough.”
Varadkar acknowledged that the public is “greatly frustrated” with current public health measures.
