A 66-year-old man has been charged with the murder of two women in Kent more than 30 years ago.

David Fuller, of Heathfield, East Sussex, has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the 1987 deaths of Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce.

He has been placed in pre-trial detention to appear later in Medway Magistrates Court.

Deputy Chief of Police Tracey Harman of the Kent and Essex Directorate of Serious Crimes said: “While it has been over three decades since these murders occurred, I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to be, to contact us. “

The store’s manager, Ms Knell, 25, was found sexually assaulted and beaten to death in her room on Guildford Road, Tunbridge Wells, on June 23, after failing to show up for work.

The second victim, also from Tunbridge Wells, died five months later after being attacked in front of his Grosvenor Park home.

Ms. Pierce was last seen around midnight on November 24, 1987, when a taxi dropped her off at her home.

Screams were heard outside the home and her body was found by a farm worker in a drainage ditch 40 miles away in Romney Marsh on December 15 of that year.

Anyone with information should contact Kent Police on 01622 652006 quoting the case reference 46 / YY / 16746/20 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
