Ann Howells said: “They obviously want the lockdown extended.”

Davina Jameson said: “I should have fined each and every one of them and have a criminal record. See how smart they think they are.”

Maurice Byrne said: “Foolish and selfish people. How dare they put others in danger?”

Brian Dooley said: “We will never get rid of the virus, as long as idiots behave like this.”

GMP Deputy Chief of Police Rob Potts said: “This event was unacceptable and a blatant disregard of, not only the restrictions for COVID-19 and the safety of others, but also the safety of those present, as we saw serious examples during the summer period of the dangers posed by attending such events.

“Fortunately, our officers, along with support resources from Cheshire, BTP, NPAS and Network Rail were able to quickly bring the event to an end and prevent more people from attending, as well as ensuring a safe and orderly departure from the site despite the challenges. raised by the surrounding terrain.

“This event was a clear and flagrant violation of current regulations to keep people safe and a comprehensive investigation has been launched to bring the organizers to justice.

“I would also like to reiterate our message for the summer to those who are thinking of attending these events and those who are willing to leave their children at these illegal gatherings; While many may attend to have a good time, not all go with the same intentions. In addition to being illegal, these events are not safe and the fact that a machete was recovered from the site of this event is a disturbing but important reminder that this is still the case.

“Our dedicated plans to address events like these meant that this illegal gathering did not compromise our response to other ongoing incidents, but we must all work together and continue to comply with government regulations to avoid unnecessary demands on all emergency services. Where there are flagrant violations, there will be strict enforcement. “
