Donald Trump supporters have been protesting in Washington DC after the president appeared to hint that he might not be in the White House for much longer.
Thousands of protesters marched towards Freedom Plaza near the White House in downtown DC before heading towards the United States Supreme Court building.
“Stop the robbery!” and “We are the champions!” was chanted by the crowd, which included members of the far-right Proud Boys group and the Oath Keepers militia, who supported Trump’s bid to stay in power nearly two weeks after Election Day.
The president persists with his claims and legal complaints despite the fact that top government and industry officials declared the vote on November 3 and the following count went without more problems than usual.
Republican leaders in four critical states won by Joe Biden (Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) have said they will not participate in a legally dubious plan to get their state’s electors to vote for Trump.
On Friday, Trump appeared to be close to acknowledging, for the first time, that he had not won the election.
“This administration will not go to a shutdown,” he said at a White House briefing on the pandemic.
“Hopefully, uh, whatever happens in the future, who knows what administration it will be? I guess time will tell.”
But his supporters in Washington and other cities were eager to back up his unfounded claims of voter fraud as he goes ahead with various legal challenges to overturn Biden’s victory.
A protester in DC told Sky News: “I think this shows the world that President Trump has so much support.
“We see the fraud happening right before our eyes and we are just not going to let it happen.”
When the marches began, Biden told reporters during a bike ride with his wife and Secret Service agents in Delaware that he was getting closer to forming a cabinet.
On Friday, the president-elect further solidified his victory after results showed he won in Georgia to give him 306 electoral college votes, far more than the necessary 270 and comfortably above Trump’s 232.
The president has only spoken publicly a few times since the election, but his caravan drove slowly through DC on Saturday, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Some ran alongside their limousine as the crowd chanted “USA, USA.” And “four more years”, while many carried American flags and posters demanding stories.
Then Trump was taken to his Virginia golf club, where a long time has passed since the election.

There were concerns that the “MAGA Million March,” which was heavily touted on social media, would spark a conflict with anti-Trump protesters who have been gathering near the White House in Black Lives Matter Plaza for weeks.
Police closed large sections of the city center, where many shops and offices have been bricked up since Election Day.
