18-year-old teenager arrested on suspicion of murder after 16-year-old was stabbed in Moston

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was stabbed to death in north Manchester.

The 16-year-old was fatally wounded during an altercation that police say involved “several armed men with guns” in Moston on Thursday night.

The alarm was raised and emergency services proceeded to Birchenall Street around 7pm.

However, despite the best efforts of doctors, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say a man has been arrested on suspicion of his murder.

The 18-year-old arrived at the hospital with apparent stab wounds of his own later Thursday night, they say.

He has been arrested but remains in hospital for treatment, they have confirmed.

A large area around the scene remains recorded this morning.

The family of the deceased child has the support of specialized agents.

A large cordon remains in the area around Kenyon Lane this morning and forensic officers in white suits continue to comb the area for clues.

Detectives whose investigation is still in its early stages and who are working to understand all the circumstances.

However, they have urged anyone with information to “do the right thing” and come forward.

GMP Manchester City District Superintendent Rebecca Boyce said: “This was a tragic incident and although we have arrested a man, our investigation is still in its early stages as our goal is to establish the full circumstances that surround this incident.

“As always, our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the child who sadly lost his life and a dedicated team of officers is supporting them through this incredibly difficult time.

“Our message to the community still stands and we are urging anyone with information to do the right thing and come forward and help the police with our investigations. Any information, no matter how large or small, will be of great help to our investigation”.
