A 17-year-old boy is arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a young mother walking with her five-year-old son was stabbed in a ‘cruel and unprovoked attack’

A teenage girl was arrested for attempted murder after a young mother walking with her five-year-old son was allegedly stabbed in a “cruel and unprovoked attack.”

The 24-year-old victim was stabbed while walking with her five-year-old son on Rudheath Avenue in Withington, Greater Manchester, around 1.30pm on Saturday.

Subsequently, the police arrested a 17-year-old who is currently being questioned in custody.

The woman was taken to hospital with stab wounds to her leg and is stable. Her son had no visible injuries.

Detective Inspector John Robb said: ‘This was a brutal attack in which a woman was stabbed in front of her young son. Our thoughts are with her and her family as she recovers from this ordeal.

“I would like to assure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident and that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this assassination attempt.”
