Police arrested several people as protesters marched through the city center in opposition to today’s closure.
Despite pleas from the police in advance, hundreds of people headed to Liverpool for a planned protest in the city center.

The force confirmed on Saturday that at 2:45 p.m., 16 people had been detained.

“Unfortunately, a small number of selfish and irresponsible individuals have chosen to gather downtown today, putting their families, the public, and our staff at risk from this global pandemic. So far, we have made 16 public order arrests. and violation of coronavirus regulations. “

Attendees carried signs as they marched past Bombed Out Church, St George’s Hall and Bold Street.
A heavy police presence was visible in the city center and the police helicopter can be heard overhead.

Several police vehicles and mounted officers also attended.
There was also a large police presence near Sefton Park, where another protest was planned, although the majority of the protesters are believed to have gone downtown.

Merseyside police had already issued a dispersal zone in the city center and south of Liverpool earlier today, ahead of the protests.
A Merseyside police spokeswoman said: “The warrant came after a meeting last weekend that contravenes coronavirus legislation.
“This order has been authorized to protect lives, prevent the spread of the coronavirus and keep people safe.”
