A 15-year-old boy died after being attacked by a group of youths in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.
The boy was “attacked” by the gang on Linwood Road shortly after 3:30 pm Thursday. He was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries shortly after, according to West Midlands police.
Witnesses say shots were heard and the suspects were armed with knives. They fled in a white car that crashed into a home on nearby Wheeler Street, police added. No arrests have been made.
DCI Alastair Orencas of the homicide team, which is leading the investigation, said: “This level of violence in broad daylight on a residential street is inconceivable, let alone the fact that the target was a 15-year-old boy.
“We leave no stone unturned in the search for those responsible and I ask everyone who knows who they are to get in touch with us.
“The boy’s family has had the worst concussion imaginable today and we have specialist officers with them in their time of mourning.”
Officers are speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV in the area. The car has also been impounded for a forensic examination.
Witnesses should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
