U.S. airstrikes in Syria have killed seven al Qaeda leaders

A military official said U.S. airstrikes in northwestern Syria are believed to have killed seven al-Qaeda affiliates.

The strike was called off Oct 22 because the alleged militants were meeting near the town of Idlib, Central Command spokesman Major Beth Riordan told the Associated Press.

The seven people killed have not been identified, but Riordan said such airstrikes would hurt the terrorist group as they targeted Americans and U.S. forces around the world. Trying to attack allies.

On Monday, Afghan officials said they had assassinated a top al Qaeda operative on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Hussein Abdul al-Rauf is reported to have been killed in a military operation in eastern Afghanistan as the US seeks to evacuate the country after years of military presence in the region.

Details of the operation and al-Rauf’s death were unclear Monday night.

Al-Qaeda did not immediately confirm his death after the killing was announced in a Twitter message from Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security Intelligence.
