Two teenagers arrested in Belgium on suspicion of conspiracy to commit terrorism World News

Belgium’s federal prosecutor’s office says two minors have been arrested for plotting a terrorist attack.

The suspects, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on October 31 after raids in the cities of Uppen and La Calamine in the province of Liege. The prosecutor’s office said he was “suspected of attempting to assassinate a terrorist and participating in a terrorist organization.”

Both minors have been placed in a youth protection center. According to Belgian broadcaster RTBF, the suspects recorded a video of allegiance to the Islamic State and suspected knife attacks against police officers.

The arrests come ahead of Monday’s attack in Vienna, where a man who had previously tried to join ISIS stormed the Austrian capital and fatally shot four people before being beaten by police.

Four years ago, 32 people were killed and hundreds injured in coordinated attacks on Brussels’ Zventem airport and the city’s metro system. Belgian authorities have since foiled several terrorist plots.
