Two members of one of the world’s most “infamous videogame piracy groups” – Team Zecutor – have been arrested. This is the same enterprise that is known for exploiting vulnerabilities in Nintendo, Sony and Micro .ft video game hardware.
The United States Department of Justice arrested Max Lauren, a 48-year-old French citizen, and Gary Bauer, a 51-year-old Canadian, in September and now faces 11 counts each:
“Each accused is charged with 11 counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to take technical action and traffic in perimeter devices, trafficking in circulation devices and money laundering.”
Lauren and Bauer were the “leaders” of Team Jacquard. The agency also charged 35-year-old Yuanying Chen of China.
Team documents describe the executor as a “criminal enterprise” in court documents, which include more than a dozen individual members from around the world. Members include developers who exploit vulnerabilities in video game consoles and planning devices. There are also website designers who create pages to promote devices, suppliers and resellers who distribute them.
Earlier this week, Nintendo won million 2 million in a lawsuit against an online online store that is selling Team Xecuter devices.
