‘Twilight’ Companion novel ‘Midnight Sun’ sold 1M copies in the first week of publication

Author Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Midnight Sun’ is a retelling of her ‘Twilight’ love story, but told from the point of view of Edward Cullen instead of Bella Swan.

Although it has been 15 years since author Stephenie Meyer debuted her novel, Twilight, the love for the franchise remains as Midnight Sun., the much-anticipated companion novel to the franchise, has sold a million copies across all formats in its first week of sales in North America, publisher Hachete Book Group and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers published Thursday.

The combined sales figures for Midnight Sun, which one was released on August 4th. includes pre-orders, sales of print books, ebooks and audiobooks. Additional incoming orders from consumers also apply to retail sales. The book also tops at the moment New York TimesList of children’s series.

Midnight Sun. is also an international bestseller with the no. 1 spots in the UK, Brazil, Holland and Germany. It is the no. 2 bestselling book in France.

Meyer’s Midnight Sun. is a repetition of them Twilight love story, but told from the point of view of Edward Cullen instead of Bella Swan.

Meyer first placed the novel in a surprise announcement in May by showing it with a countdown clock on its website. The clock was also posted on the social media pages of her production company, Fickle Fish Films. The author filmed a video that was broadcast on Good Morning America, in which they officially announced the release of Midnight Sun.

“It’s a crazy time now and I was not sure if it was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have just been waiting, so long it has not been fair to wait for you anymore,” she said.

Although the author was originally set to publish Midnight Sun. in 2008, Meyer canceled the publication plans after a copy of her manuscript leaked online. The author then posted a partly rough concept of the work on her website, but never published a completed story. At the moment, she was referring Midnight Sun. as “an exercise in character development that got wildly out of hand.”

“While I was putting out some real editing work (I’m always at my most creative when I put it out), I started to wonder how the first chapter of Twilight would read if it was written from the perspective of Edward. There is sa much more on his side of the story than there is to Bella’s in that first chapter, ‘she wrote to fans on her website.

Meyer’s Twilight books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The popular franchise centered on a vampire and teenage human infatuation became a cult phenomenon after it was adapted for the 2008 film of the same name with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Each book in the franchise was adapted for film, before the curtains were closed in 2012 with the final installation, Breaking Dawn: Part 2.

For its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, Twilight gross worldwide $ 393.6 million. The second film in the film franchise, New moon, gross $ 709.7 million. Meanwhile Eclipse gross $ 698.4 million; Breaking Dawn: Part 1 gross $ 712.2 million and Breaking Dawn: Part 2 completed with $ 829.7 million worldwide.
